The International Tchaikovsky Youth Orchestra is the trademark of the Orchestral Academy, held by the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic in partnership with RCCR Projects GmbH, Germany since 2014. The project has received an international award as the best project of interregional cooperation following the results of the Russian-German Year of Regional-Municipal Partnerships, in 2018.
Year in and year out, the Tchaikovsky Orchestra brings together young musicians from different countries and artists of the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra, as the Academy interns. As a rule, a well-known European conductor would lead the Tchaikovsky Orchestra. In 2021, this role belongs to Christoph Stöcker, a recognized Wagner expert and a long-term participant of the Bayreuth Festival. Along with him, reputable professors of the foreign universities of music work with the young artists of the Orchestra as the Academy mentors. In 2021, they are Professor Christian-Friedrich Dallmann of the Berlin University of the Arts, whose collaboration with the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic has been developing since 2017, and Andreas Neufeld, artist of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
In 2021, the Orchestral Academy will take place in the framework of the Wagner. Das Rheingold International Music Project. The Tchaikovsky Orchestra will participate in the concert performance of the first part of Richard Wagner’s tetralogy.
