Gerhard Oppitz (piano), Germany

Gerhard Oppitz studied with professors Paul Buck and Hugo Steurer at Munich University of Music and with Wilhelm Kempff in Stuttgart. In 1977, he was awarded first prize at the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Israel. This event marked the beginning of his worldwide concert activities – recitals in the major music centres of Europe, America and East Asia, as well as collaborations with the most renowned conductors and orchestras. He was awarded the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art. His discography comprises over 70 titles.

By his own admission, his main interest is the classical-romantic repertoire, although he has always devoted himself to music of the twentieth century. He has demonstrated his particular fondness for presenting major groups of work cycles: 48 Preludes and Fugues from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Mozart’s eighteen sonatas, Beethoven’s 32 sonatas, Schubert’s and Brahms’ complete piano works. His future plans include performances of complete solo works of Debussy and Ravel, Mozart piano concertos and main piano works of Liszt.
