Georgy Gusev (cello), Russia–United States

Georgy Gusev is a graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory (studied with Professor Alexei Seleznev) and the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome (studied with Professor Giovanni Sollima). He took part in master classes given by Philippe Muller in China, Jens Peter Maintz in Germany, Maria Kliegel in Italy, and Claudio Bohorquez in Switzerland. His performance partners have been Natalia Gutman, Eliso Virsaladze, Giovanni Sollima, Monika Leskovar, Enrico Dindo, Sonig Tchakerian, Rocco Filippini, Boris Andrianov, and Alexander Bouzlov; the cellist worked with such conductors as Boris Frumkin, Ivan Vlasov, Joost Smeets, Nicola Guerini, Manfred Croci, Massimo Pradella, and Igor Lerman.

He is a cellist-innovator practicing a crossover style. He gives concerts, makes recordings for radio and television, and composes music. The series of his compositions for cello solo called “The Traveler’s Diary” (Breviario per nomadi) has been used as a background for various TV shows by the Italian RAI 3 television channel. His compositions as well as his interpretations of famous jazz and rock compositions served as a basis for his Cello Drive multimedia project where he used visual arts, light effects and motion imagery. He plays a cello by Ernst Liebich (Germany, 19th century) and a Yamaha electric cello.
