Dmitry Liss is a graduate of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he studied at the class of Music Director of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), Professor Dmitry Kitayenko. Dmitry Liss started his career with MPO as Maestro Kitayenko’s assistant. Later he held the position of a Chief Conductor of Kuzbass Symphony Orchestra (1991-1995) and won the Lovro Matacic International Competition of Young Conductors (Zagreb, 1995). Dmitry Liss is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra since 1995. In 1997-1999 he was Principal Russian Conductor of the American Russian Youth Orchestra and was appointed Associate Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra (1999-2003).

Maestro Liss performed with the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, St.-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Big Tchaikovsky State Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, North Netherlands Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Osaka and Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestras, The Pacific Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungarian National Orchestra, Estonian National Orchestra and Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra. Under Maestro Liss’ leadership, the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra took part in numerous prestigious international festivals, toured all over the world and recorded over 30 CDs. Since 2016 Dmitry Liss is the Chief Conductor of the South Netherlands Philharmonic, and works with two orchestras in parallel.
