On September 25 the jury of the 4th Open Composing Competition Peter and the Wolf headed by Alexander Tchaikovsky announced the five front runners of the 2018 edition.
October 13, their works will be premiered by the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra as part of the concert program of the 5th Symphony Forum of Russia in Yekaterinburg.
The Winner of the Competition will be determined that night, and the listeners’ awards will be awarded, including the Audience Choice Award and the Philharmonic Assemblies Prize. The level of applause volume will be displayed on the screen of the Concert Hall, and "votes" of Peter and the Wolf listeners from the region’s towns and settlements - Gari, Sosva, Tabor, Tugulym, Upper Sinyachikha, Turinskaya Sloboda, Ivdel, Turinsk, Sudak, Berezovsky, Verkhnyaya Salda, and Krasnoufimsk will help identify the winning composers favored by the audiences of the Great Concert Hall and the Digital Concert Hall.
The competition jury reviewed 51 applications from Japan, Germany, Israel, Switzerland, United States, Scotland, Venezuela, Latvia, Mexico, England, Italy and Russia. The names of the authors cannot be revealed until the announcement of the finalists, therefore the mottos indicated on the front-runners submissions are included in the concert program.

On October 13 the audience of Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region will be presented five premier symphonic works. The Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Enkhe has already started rehearsing the finalists’ compositions. New symphonic music for children will be performed on the philharmonic stage along with the time-honored classics that inspired the competition - Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev.
