Our upcoming 5th Eurasia International Music Festival is a media partner of a grand-scale musical forum Classical:NEXT, that is about to open its doors to the numerous delegates from all over the world!
The eighth edition of Classical:NEXT is set to reconvene the classical and art music world in Rotterdam from 15 – 18 May 2019. Delegates can take part in cross-sector networking, the international expo and interactive conference, as well as enjoy showcase concerts and presentations of projects and services from around the world.
The upcoming edition will place special emphasis on giving a voice to groups which are often underrepresented, be it in leadership, on the podium or in audiences, embracing the headline "21st Century Polyphony: More Voices, Greater Symphonies". By standing for the unification of the global classical and art music scene, Classical:NEXT enables the industry to work collectively, effectively and with increasing relevance in today's ever-changing society.
The Showcase Festival will feature eleven Daytime and Evening Showcases, four Club Showcases and two DJ sets, all selected by the Classical:NEXT Jury. They each highlight the latest in innovative music-making from around the world. Two off C:N Showcases will also be featured and Germany-native Spark – The Classical Band will perform at the Closing Ceremony. Making their European debut, Brooklyn-based performance venue National Sawdust will curate the opening ceremony “National Sawdust: Hear It New!”, featuring acclaimed cellist Amanda Gookin performing a piece from her feminist work Forward Music Project, composer and National Sawdust Hildegard Award–winner Emma O’Halloran’s composition Constellations performed by members of Young Doelen Ensemble, and a specially commissioned short film, Kipatsi, Nija, Añaantsi (Land, Water, Life), directed by filmmaker Murat Eyuboglu, featuring a live performance by Peruvian composer and performer Pauchi Sasaki.
A number of firsts will take place during the Conference as well. These include a Higher Music Education Pre-Conference and an accompanying Network Meeting, a Network Meeting for Medium Size Ensembles and Orchestras, the Freelancer DIY Exchange and it will see the return of the ever-popular Global Orchestra Network Meeting. The schedule is filled with sessions that cover an array of topics, from designing orchestras and well-being in art, to artivism and cultural diplomacy. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn from organisations using techniques that have been tried and tested, hear about case studies in places far from home, discover best practices and develop new approaches to tradition over the course of the four-day event.
